Spiritual Fathers

1 Corinthians 4:15

“ Even if you had ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel.”

You have plenty of people that desire to instruct, teach, and tell you what to do but very few who have a parental affection and desire to love, nurture, train and sacrificially invest in your life to see you go farther than they do.

Paul invested his life to many as a spiritual father.

God give us more spiritual fathers and less task masters.

Spiritual fathers reproduce sons and daughters that enjoy laying their lives down for the cause.

Task masters make Christianity about rules, regulations and performance.

Spiritual Fathers make Christianity about relationship.

You will have to follow and chase a task master around and try to win their time and affection. This type of atmosphere creates competition, strife and jealousy.

Spiritual fathers actually pursue you and make time for you without much effort at all on your part and this creates a desire to be with the spiritual father.

Elijah was a spiritual father and when he recruited Elisha he didn’t say you have to follow me and chase me. We have created a mindset that mentoring is about the mentee chasing the mentor but Elijah stopped his travels, daily routine and schedule to sit and wait for Elisha to burn his equipment, make a sacrifice and prepare and eat a meal with his family. Then he carried Elisha with him everywhere he went until the Lord took him to heaven.

We know Elijah was a father who reproduced a fathering spirit because when he was taken to heaven Elisha cried out “my father my father.” Then when Elisha was dying his king was in his room crying out “my father my father.”

Spiritual fathers raise up sons who in turn become spiritual fathers.

You can’t be a father until you have been a son.

Even God says at the end of the old testament that in the last days HE is going to send the “spirit of Elijah” to turn the hearts of the children to the fathers and the heart of the fathers to the children.

Could it be that in the last days we are going to see a great awakening of spiritual fathers in the kingdom of God?

This one thing I know, every heart is crying out for a spiritual father and not finding one has the potential to make your heart bitter.

Let’s turn to God and cry out to HIM for spiritual fathers in this hour.

In Jesus name, Amen.
